Getting a baseline offer from CarMax.
NO LOWBALLERS I KNOW WHAT I GO T. (Actually I don’t, hence why I want a bottom dollar offer.)

Best deal?

Taking a decent car for an appraisal at Carmax is like a masochistic self-esteem test.

Agreed.
They offered us $5500 for our truck, which was easily worth double that private party, almost 3x that retail.

My guess is $500 below bottom of NADA value.

I thought the offer they gave me on my TSX was fair. It was more than I expected, at least. Then they turned around and sold it for the same price I paid for it, with another year and 8,000 miles on it...

Well the website it’s hosted on is covered in all sorts of weird symbols. I think they’ve been hacked.

I would think of all the cars to get appraised at Carmax, an enthusiast special like the S2000 would be the most ripe for being way under offered.

And it was, but you never know

They offered me 29k last fall for my E90, really wasn't too bad.

Update: $4500. Oof. Oh well

It seems like anything old enough that they’ll have to flip it at auction rather than sell themselves gets a super low offer, which at least makes some sense. I’ve had mostly good experiences selling them things new enough they can sell , but anything older—yikes. They offered me $4500 for my 4Runner when I had them look at it out of curiosity. Meanwhile, I doubt there is a single clean-title 4th gen in my state listed for less than $10k.

I'll beat whatever they offer by $500.

Oddly enough, I’ve always gotten a little more than MMR value at appraisal at CarMax. However, it’s always been on relatively newish cars they’d probably want to sell.

You’re gonna list it on Oppo and have a bidding war, right?
![]() 10/17/2018 at 14:20 |

Does that make you assume retail would be $35k?

Ex-rental (probably Hertz), basic spec, roll them dice.
![]() 10/17/2018 at 14:35 |

Possibly , but I have to get it in proper selling condition.

Gib now!

I’ll bid $4501

Possibly, probably even more. Wouldn’t be surprised if they had listed it for close to 40k. It was within the ballpark of what I’d expect from a dealer, there were a couple 6MT E90 M3s with good mileage at that time selling for right around 38-42k.

How much more would this have sold for if it was a manual? $5k? More?

I was watching that auction, considering that a 2008 with almost double the miles went for 35k , I wouldn’t have been surprised to see it go for at least a 10k premium over that. Honestly 50k wouldn’t have surprised me.
I really want to know what kind of premium that the LCI manuals command over both the 2008s and the LCI DCTs as BAT has yet to sell a LCI 6MT. Only 1055 6MT LCIs and only 3135 total 6MT E90s. They’re can’t be that many low mileage ones out there, and the ones that are out there haven’t been trading hands recently.

Those are North American numbers, right?
And there will only be fewer in the future!
![]() 10/17/2018 at 15:58 |

Yeah, those are US/Canada numbers, but they only sold a total 4318 E90 manuals world wide.
Exactly , which is why if you want one, now is the time to buy.

Yeah; I don’t blame you for trying.

They do have a year cut off, i forget what it is though. I want to say 7-8 years old. Anything older than that and they just send it to auction.

It’s 10 years at the time of the sale, actually, although of course not every car within that period will be clean enough for them to quickly recondition and put up for sale.
